Toyota Extended Warranty

Toyota’s warranty, while not too new to the market, is one of the major factors driving up the manufacturer’s unit sales. Today, when you buy a new car from the Toyota, you get a protection plan to guarantee that it’s free of defects for a given period of time. These are manufacturer warranties that come directly from Toyota.

There are five types of Toyota warranties:

New Vehicle Coverage

Toyota provides each new car with a 36 month or up to 36,000 miles of limited coverage. This warranty covers all components of the car apart from normal wear and items that require maintenance.  The rust-through policy shields your car from corrosion perforation of sheet metal for up to 60 months.

Hybrid Warranty

Toyota’s hybrid policy covers most of the hybrid components you might have within the car including HV batteries; hybrid control modules; inverter with converter and battery control modules; all these are covered for 8 years or 10,000 miles whichever promises greater value. The HV battery may sometimes attract a longer coverage under the emissions warranty. The coverage also comes with a 6-month/60,000 miles power-train protection that caters for the engine, rear-wheel drive, front-wheel system, the transmission/transaxle, airbags and seat belts.

Accessories Coverage

Toyota accessories are traditionally built to last, usually very strong and durable; you still get a 12 month protection plan on them regardless. If the products are purchased at the time of buying a new car, you get a 36 month/36,000 miles coverage from the in-service date – you’ll notice that this is actually similar to the new car warranty. All other accessories (except for car covers) purchased after the purchase date are warranted for 12 months from the date of their installation or the remainder of an applicable new vehicle coverage, whichever is greater. This protection policy is usually for 12 months from the date of purchase and does not assume any pre-existing warranties whatsoever.

TCUV Warranty

The Toyota Certified Used Vehicle, once inspected, comes with a 12 month/12,000 mile protection plan from the date of certified purchase. Any Toyota Certified Used Hybrid is warranted for 8 years/100,000 miles. These may include hybrid HV batteries, hybrid control modules, battery modules and the inverter with converter. Again, the HV battery may have a longer coverage under the emissions policy. TCUV’s are also backed with a 7 year/ 100K miles power-train warranty.

Extended Warranty

Unfortunately, the manufacture warranties listed above are limited and usually expire when the time comes. The good news is that you can always get a Toyota Extended Warranty as soon as that expiration date arrives.

An extended warranty simply picks up where the manufacturer protection stops. There are different levels of coverage to choose from though most drivers prefer to pick on the highest-level extended warranty which is basically a continuation of the initial warranty.

How much you get to pay for extended protection usually depends on the level of cover you choose. However, most of the common extended warranties cost between $700 and $900 per year.

A combination of these two plans should see your Toyota protected for as long as you own it. If you would like to compare your plans to the manufacturer’s policies, refer to our factory protection page where we compare coverage plans.
